20/11/2012

Quality teaching by quality teachers is acknowledged as the key to success in schools and TAFE institutes.

Glenn-Martin_webGlenn Martin, from SWSi's Lidcombe College, is among forty-four exemplary school and TAFE educators from around the state who have been recognised for their contributions to quality education with a 2012 Minister’s Quality Teaching Award. He received his award from Institute Director, Peter Roberts, this week.

The outstanding teachers (34 from public schools and ten from TAFE colleges) were presented with this prestigious award for excellence in teaching by the Hon Adrian Piccoli MP, Minister for Education, at a ceremony in Sydney this week.

“We know that teaching is the single largest in-school predictor of success at school, and this is equally true for TAFE students” Minister Piccoli said.

“It is what teachers know, do and care about which is a very powerful influence in teaching.

“Great teachers have a rich repertoire of teaching strategies and know how and when to use these strategies to optimise learning.

“What impresses me particularly is the rich variety of skills, interests and achievement shown by these teachers, who have earned the respect of their colleagues, principals, institute directors and communities,” he said.

Mr Martin was selected for driving the implementation of e-learning into the Shopfitting Trade program delivery at Lidcombe College. Glenn has developed online Moodle resources that increase student engagement and he has encouraged other teachers to upgrade their teaching content and methodologies.

SWSi Director, Peter Roberts, congratulated Glenn on his recognition.

”This Award is wonderful recognition of Glenn’s commitment to students.  He has led innovation in online learning for students and supported broader engagement of fellow teachers in expanding the options students have in engaging in learning,” he said.

The school and TAFE teachers who are the recipients of the 2012 Minister’s Quality Teaching Award are to be congratulated for their outstanding work in our NSW public schools and TAFE institutes.
