A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the TAFE NSW - South Western Sydney Institute (SWSi) and Liverpool City Council today at the Francis Greenway Centre in Liverpool, formalising a partnership and commitment to the local community through collaboration, coordination and engagement.

The agreement between TAFE NSW - South Western Sydney Institute (SWSi) and Liverpool City Council will seek to identify and deliver economic development initiatives needed in the Liverpool community.

Institute Director, Peter Roberts, said the Memorandum sets out the intention of the parties to establish a strategic alliance for working together into the future.SWSi and Liverpool City Council join forces to meet local community needs

“This Memorandum of Understanding builds on the existing strengths and collaborative activities of our organisations to identify new economic development initiatives for the Liverpool community.

“The signing of this agreement signals a stronger engagement between the council and TAFE in meeting the current and emerging needs of the local community, workforce, businesses and industry in Liverpool City,” said Institute Director, Peter Roberts.

Liverpool City Council General Manager, Farooq Portelli, welcomed the collaboration as a way to help create jobs and improve the quality of life for the Liverpool community.

“Economic and employment development needs to be an inclusive process where the public, private, academic and community sectors establish partnerships and work together to find solutions to common economic challenges.

“Today we have set the tone for Liverpool’s future growth, community cohesion, workforce skilling and economic development,” said Mr Portelli.

Benefits of the partnership include:

  • Combining Council and TAFE resources for the provision of services to the local community.
  • Promoting the Liverpool Local Government Area as a location of choice for industries seeking a skilled workforce and a high quality training provider.
  • Providing support to local industry and small business to access funding to support workforce development and build skills in the region.
  • Working together on training and initiatives for young people, Aboriginal and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities.
  • Working with employers to build local workforce capability and create new jobs.

Initiatives from the partnership have seen TAFE SWSi, Liverpool Council Children’s Services, local childcare facilities and Job Services Australia working together to select and train local unemployed participants to meet the needs of the industry partners and ensure a positive employment outcome for all involved.
