'Clubs Project’ receives Honourable Mention at 2010 B-HERT Awards

16/12/2010

The Clubs Project received the Honourable Mention in the category of "Best Vocational Education and Training Collaboration" at the annual Awards dinner. The project showcases the collaboration between South Western Sydney Institute, Sydney Turf Club, Dooley’s Lidcombe Catholic Club and Club Marconi.
Institute Director, Peter Roberts, congratulated the faculty on developing such a successful training program within the Clubs industry.
"This project is just one example of how South Western Sydney Institute is able to work with industry to meet their specialised needs in the workplace.
"Christine Williamson, Faculty Director and her team are to be congratulated on their outstanding achievements with the ‘Clubs Project’ and the national recognition they have received."
The project provided a response to the growing need to upskill, train and develop club employees. In addition, it responded to the emerging skills shortage in this industry and provided a more flexible attendance pattern to suit the industry’s rotating rosters.
This collaboration has allowed a large segment of the work force, which has traditionally missed out on formal training, the opportunity to upskill and gain qualifications, often at the higher levels of Diploma and Advanced Diploma.
The B-HERT Awards were established in 1998 to recognise outstanding achievements in collaboration between business and higher education in the fields of research and development, and education and training. The objective of the awards program is to highlight at a national level the benefits of such collaboration and enhance links between industry and higher education.
